George Colbert's children and descendants are only partially documented. Don Martini's history of the Colberts is often used as a reference on the Colberts, however it is based on incomplete data. Oral family history of Nancy Colbert's descendants who live in the area and are somewhat advanced in age at this date indicate she was the daughter of George Colbert and his second wife Shullechie/Salechie Doublehead, daughter of renegade Cherokee chief Doublehead, who settled in Lauderdale County AL on Doublehead's Reserve. George Colbert likewise had Colbert's Reserve in the same county. The oral family history states that George Colbert did not want his daughter to be forced to leave the area of her birth and, to avoid this, would give any white man who married her some money and land. Hezekiah Tharp of Franklin County AL (which was split in 1867 into Colbert and Franklin Counties) married her and they lived together until their deaths. Hezekiah's estate settlement and the court records associated with that, along with census records, and Robert Tharp's post-Civil War claim helped identify their children.
