Colbert brothers AL>IL early 1800s

I'm trying to find out how the brothers James, Henry, Drury and Hiram are descended from the Chickasaw chief James Logan Colbert. James (one of the brothers) was born in 1792 in Alabama.
"When he was a young man he came with his brothers, Henry, Drury and Hiram to Illinois, and after working for a while at the salt works entered eighty acres of government land and passed the rest of his life as a farmer... James Colbert fought in the Black Hawk war and died in 1834." (Memoirs of the Lower Ohio Valley. 1912. II:389-390)
There's a general understanding that these brothers are descendents of James Logan Colbert, but I haven't found out how. The brothers moved to what is now Gallatin County, Illinois.
