I am seeking any information on my G-G-G grandparents who apparently were born around 1830ish somewhere in Ireland and came to New York. Anything known about this couple is based strictly from a notation on a copy of their son's (Edward J. Colbert, Sr.) wedding certificate (dated August 5, 1897). This document acknowledges the Catholic ceremony held in Long Island City, Queens, NY wherein Edward married Anna (a.k.a. Annie) Cassidy of Kingston, Ulster, NY. b. 1873. I have no reason to suggest that John and Catharine had more one child. I also have reason to believe Edward was considered a life long resident of New York City. Edward's specific birthplace (i.e. county/borough/town) is also not known)and his wedding cert only references it as "New York". The NYC assumption is based entirely on the representation made apparently by his wife on the death cert document dated Dec 6, 1923. Oddly enough, however, I have not found the family unit or Edward referenced in any US Federal Census information. At least not until the 1900 census where Edward and Anna (a.k.a. Annie) are enumerated in Queens with one and their only infant child to be (my grandfather, Edward G. Colbert, Jr. (b. June 21, 1899). Both Edward and Anna (and their son, Edward) are buried in Mt. St. Mary's, Flushing. The whereabouts of John and Catharine are not known. I have literally spent months trying to break this impasse . Any assistance along these lines would be greatly greatly appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
