I read with great interest your query. If all my info is correct your grandfather NORMAN FLETCHER COLBERT (1898-1987) is the son of GEORGE W. COLBERT (abt 1862-abt 1911) and NANCY DRUCILLA HAWK (abt 1876-?) and the grandson of GEORGE FLETCHER COLBERT (2/15/1826-8/25/1891) and EDNA ALMENA WHIPPLE (4/9/1826-8/28/1895).
GEORGE FLETCHER COLBERT is the son of my 3rd g-grandfather, GEORGE A. COLBERT. My 2nd g-grandmother, BETSEY COLBERT HICKOX, was the sister of GEORGE FLETCHER COLBERT.
GEORGE FLETCHER COLBERT was probably born in Allen County, Kentucky based on the fact his sisters, BETSEY (1823-1893) and SAMANTHA FORD COLBERT (1817-1911) were both born there. GEORGE A. COLBERT was a Methodist Episcopal minister in Kentucky and the family moved to Knox/Henry Counties, Illinois about 1835. The Methodist Church has very limited info on GEORGE A. COLBERT. I have found him listed in the 1820 census for Allen County, KY. I have no other background (birth date/location, death date/location or spouse) for him. The obituaries for BETSEY COLBERT HICKOX and SAMANTHA FORD COLBERT both say that GEORGE A. COLBERT was a minister in Illinois but nothing more. GEORGE FLETCHER COLBERT went to Oregon in 1852 and married there. None of the information I have talks at all of a Chickasaw connection and I would be very interested in any information you could share in that regard and any other information regarding the COLBERT family history.
