My g grandfather proved himself disreputable when he abandoned my g grandmother and my grandfather. He called himself Coit CHARLES and is listed as such in the 1900 census. None of the other information he gave checks out. He appears with no CHARLES family in either the 1870 or 1880 TX census. However, a Charles COIT is in both, the right age and place. I'm trying to determine if Charles COIT later became Coit CHARLES. (probably avoiding prosecution or creditors) Any direction would be appreciated. It is said that he died in the Dakotas before 1910. He gave his middle name as BYRD.
