Is it possible that your George Coit is a son of Charles Coit. John Coit and Betsey Brewster (re Mayflower Brewsters) had at least four sons, all born circa 1820-1830. They were Charles, Horace, Brewster, and Alonzo. The last three migrated westward and have descendants in Missouri and Oklahoma; I believe (not absolutely certain) that Charles stayed in the Mass area. If you think the time frame might fit let me know and I'll try to check what records I have to see if I can help.
