In my bookThe COIT FAMILY, or the DESCENDANTS OF JOHN COIT; By Rev. F. W. Chapman, A.M. it states:
NO. 259, GRACE COIT, daughter of JOHN AND ELIZABETH ELY COIT, born June 26, 1770, married Walter Gracie, and died of yellow fever, Aug. 1, 1798, leaving one son, NO. 712: GABRIEL GRACIE, BORN 1790; md. Mary Calladay.
NO. 712 States:GRABIEL GRACIE COIT, son of Grace Coit and Walter Gracie, born 1790, was a Coit on his mother's side was adopted by his uncle, Samuel Coit, and assumed the family name.He accompanied his uncle Richard Coit to Philadelphia where he married Mary Calladay in the year 1808.He subsequently settled in Phildephia, and died in the year 1850, ages 60.His children:
Gabriel W., born Oct. 2, 1810, at Philadelphia, now living in Hartford; md.
Eliza Ann Pegg, March 21, 1832.
Charles C., born 1813, md. Elisabeth Ryan in 1836; died in 1847.
Richard M., born 1816; living in New London; md. Elizabeth Jane Landon in 1835.
John B., born 1820; md. Maria Hoborn, and died in New London, 1868.
Mason, born 1824; md. Sophia Cook of Brooklyn, N. Y., Feb. 29, 1848, and died there in 1865.
It doesn't say what happened to his father.
