Hi Barrie, Glad to hear back. I usually post as The_Cohens but in the Cohen Family Forum, that just didn't make sense. So, it made me a little more unique to be "California Cohens"...maybe it should be singular instead of plural...oh well. Anyhow, it'll take a while to put together how to order the certificate, I need to copy and paste the details. Basically, I'll post the listing from http://freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and the url to order the certificate online from the GRO for you. How I found the 1871 census was by searching at Ancestry for one of the children, with parents Caspar and Theresa, or something like that, with no surname, maybe including year of birth on the child +/-1 or +/-2 years. I honestly do not remember the exact search, but that's the concept. I often have to do that to find families, since most of mine get transliterated differently in every record. Oh, gosh, now I am looking at my census notes now, and see that I may have not used the parents names, as those are badly recorded as well. I probably looked for Lewis, Louis, Joseph, Charles, and Pauline, one at a time, and only in Portsea, since I figured that's where they probably were since Henry Aaron was born there. I don't recall which child's name finally found them for me. I have no idea when Caspar arrived in Germany or exactly where he was from. I guess we both need to keep hunting for the 1891 census, in case that information is on that. I lucked out with my Jacobs family. When I finally found their 1891 census, there it was, the town in Lithuania. If you can ask your Mum if she remembers anything else about what happened to any of Caspar's other children, that may give us clues as well. Also, if someone had an official appointment, that might have been mentioned in a newspaper article that you might be able to get access to at the library there, thru the historical Gale British Newspaper collection. Will write more not appropriate for the forum, in an email. I guess but am not sure you got the other one. Cheers Notify Administrator about this message?
