Hello California Cohens! I only had a sheet from the 1881 census & 1901 census for Casper, cannot find anything for 1891. How did you manage to trace the 1871 census, especially with the name change? If you wouldn't mind emailing me a copy, that would be much appreciated. Do you know when Casper arrived in England, or whereabouts in Germany he was from? Any info would help! I can tell you that Portsea is in Hampshire, the largest city in the area is Portsmouth, and it is on England's south coast. Charles is on the 1891 census, as head of the household in Bedminster, Bristol. He is living with his wife Betsy, his son Henry, daughter Sarah, brother Lewis and his wife Sarah. At that time they were living at 23, Wesley Terrace. I cannot find Charles on the 1901 census. Family legend is that he was a tailor by Royal Appointment, but that he liked drinking and gambling, so also moved around a bit, perhaps to avoid his creditors! I have nothing however to back-up any of this! My mum is seeing a cousin tonight, so I might get some more information on this. In your email to me you mentioned getting Charles' birth certificate, I need to find out the best way of getting it. It's possible (though unlikely) that my cousin might have it. Other than Charles, I don't know what became of Casper's other children. As I'm sure you will appreciate, Cohen is a very popular name, and it's difficult to distinguish individuals. You said: 'Looking forward to sharing. Where are you?' I'm in Borehamwood, which is in Hertfordshire, just bordering North London, but inside the M25 motorway. I don't even know your name, let alone where you are (except South California, which I'm sure is a big place). Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Regards, Barrie.
