Cohens in Florida

I am not a Cohen descendant, but found the following information while researching the founding fathers of Orlando, Florida, and thought it might be of interest to this forum.

Jacob Raphael Cohen came to Florida from Savannah, Georgia, with his brothers Morris and Samuel and sister Mary, in 1867. They settled first in Jacksonville, where Mary married Philip Dzielynski, but eventually owned several stores along the Florida frontier.

By 1870, they owned stores at Bartow and Fort Ogden, where they capitalized on the Peace River cattle trade. Other stores in Fort Meade and Tampa followed. In 1874, Jacob opened a store in Orlando, and helped to write the city's charter when it was incorporated the following year. He was elected one of the first aldermen.

In 1877, Jacob married Rachel Williams, daughter of Robert Williams (cotton planter from Tallahassee) and Helena Dzielynski. She was a neice of his brother-in-law Philip.

The Cohens later left Orlando to persue Jacob's political ambitions in Tallahassee. In 1901, he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. And, in 1915, he joined Julius Hirschberg in Miami at a fundraiser for the Zionist movement that amassed $10,000

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has information on Jacob's ancestry or descendants..
