I am a direct descendent of Amos Cohea or Cohee, from Robertson County Tenn from the early 1800's.
He died there and I have the sale listing of is estate. Most of the family then moved to Wash County Arkansas. In this order of relatives is my lineage. His son John: John's son, Gilbert: Gilberts son Amos: Amos's son Fred. There are so many Amos's, John's etc that it's easy to get confused. The records I have show the name spelled Cohea and in the same Arkansas Court Documents the name may be spelled Cohee and this clue proves many of our ancestors did not read or write and in a legal document they would pronounce the name and whoever was helping with the document would spell it phonetically and this explains the difference in spelling. I have come to believe the name is all inclusive and that both spellings indicates the same bloodline. I am looking for the Native American part of my lineage because I have a picture of my Great Grandmother and she could pass for Sitting Bull's sister. Maden Name, Margaret West. Would enjoy exchange exchanging Genealogical info and I have a research book that covers the line pretty good written by Nettie Logsdon many years ago. Please write. me at my email address olinc@pacbell.net
Thank You Olin Cohea YOB 1931
