Cohee Family Genealogy Forum

I have done the research and documentation regarding the connections between Cohee and Cohea. Our Amos Cohee left Maryland abt 1798 and traveled to middle Tennessee area. His sons, George W. Cohee and John Cohee, changed the spelling of their names to Cohea after their move to TN.
The reason is speculation. Being from a family in the late 1700s that possibly could not read nor write very well, an "e" mistaken for an "a" in a document somewhere, who knows. But for a while, all documentation of this family uses both Cohee and Cohea spelling and then finally Cohea. John went on to Ar and George's 2 sons, Adley Cohea and Archibald Cohea went on to MS and TX. Subsequently all decendants of this line ( the southern line) as I refer to it, has been spelled Cohea from that time on. In conclusion, the Coheas of Amos Cohee from Maryland 1798 era, are in reality Cohee family decendants. Any help on discovering of which line of Cohee in Maryland area in 1700s would greatly be appreciated.
