I don't know if there are any differences between the two transcribed manuscripts and the published book - as I don't have the published book in my possession.
The book was transcribed in 1911, and looks as if it was a gift to my great-grandfather Frank E. Cogswell.I emailed part of the "Preface" to Roger, thinking that this might lend some insight into whether it was transcribed word-for-word or not.
My scanner broke awhile back. However, I offerred to snail-mail copies of the letters to Roger and will do so if he'd like to share his address with me.Due to their age the letters are very fragile and a few words are faded, so copying them properly will take some time.My old photocopies might suffice, but I'll wait and see how these turn out.
I am not well-schooled in genealogy.I did, however, take a one year sabbatical in the late 1980's and travelled New England for the sole purpose of exploring Cogswell historical places of interest mentioned in the manuscripts.
With the letters I have I'll see if there is any mention of Samuel Cogswell and Cynthia Hewitt, or if the date in my manuscripts corresponds with the published book.I'll email you as soon as I'm able with the info.
