First of all, I am not the author of Descendants of John Cogswell. The author is Mr. Donald James Cogswell, historian of the Cogswell Family Association.
Halifax’s Cogswell Street was probably named for the Honorable Henry Hezekiah Cogswell, M. L. C., was born in Cornwallis, April 12, 1776 son of Mason and Lydia (Huntington) Cogswell, of Cornwallis.Mason was the son of Hezekiah Cogswell, one of the original planters from New England.I found quite a bit about Henry while in Halifax at the Public Archives.I have short bios of him and two of his children, The Rev. William Cogswell, M. A. and Isabella Binney Cogswell, both prominent citizens of Halifax.
I am not a direct descendant of Henry Hezekiah, but of his father’s brother, Aaron Cogswell.Several of my ancestors were born in Kings County, including my grandfather and great grandparents, who were all born in Baxter’s Harbour. If you want, send me an e-mail and I can send you the bios. Also, I would like any information about Baxter’s Harbour that you can share.
