James F. Cogdell and Mary E. Bible Cogdill

My name is Kristie Cogdill. My grandparents are James Lewis and Katherine Cogdill. His parents were France C. and Verlie Cogdill. France's parents were James F.1880 TN and Mary E. Cogdell 1882 TN. All I know is that my greatgrand-father was born in NC, and moved to Tennessee when my grandfather was young. My grandfather told me that when they moved to Tennessee that grandpaw(France) dropped the 'e' and added the 'i' and that is why we spell our last name 'Cogdill'. He didn't know why grandpaw did that. Is anyone from this line of Cogdills?
