To Mr Sam Cogdell & R. Marlene Ashman, 1 Very sorry to have taken so long to answer. I have been taking care of my father. It's 24-7 work. Have help now & plan on getting back into my family's genealogy.
In Butler cowell's legal papers: Mrs Nancy Cogdell said
Mrs Nancy Cogdell of Beaufort County, N.C. made an affidavit saying that she knew Butler Cowell who was said to have belonged to the Continental Army but has been dead for twenty or thrity years. She stated that his sons were Benjamin,John,William and Henry. She believed that John and Butler Jr died without being married. She also stated that William died & his widow married married Benjamin Slade, His daughter Lucretia married Benjamin Slade and that Mary Cowell is the daughter of William Cowell. Son Benjamin removed (possibly to Johnston County,my insertion). She states that there were some younger children living with there mother. Mrs Cogdell also said that Butler Cowell had a daughter named Mary who has long since died. Also there was another daughter who married " and has gone to some distant place unknown to Mrs Cogdell. All the family were long residents of Beaufort County. She stated that Butler Cowell removed before his death to some southern County. This stated was sworn July 6,1820 I would love to work with anyone on the Cowell family genealogy as it is my passion. Thank You, Laura Cowell Phillips
