I am also a descendant of Thomas Nathan Cofield and Cosby Vina Cofield (Scott Owens is my 2nd cousin). Thomas was born in North Carolina, probably the son of a Gresham or Grisham Cofield who later died in Twiggs COunty GA in the 1820s. This is not the same Gresham who was son of Benjamin Coffield of Edgecombe-Halifax Counties, NC, who died in 1770. That Gresham went to Kentucky, not Georgia. Some indepth Cofield research is needed in North Carolina. I may try this summer. By the way, I am the one who circulated Nathan as Thomas' middle name. That was given to me in the papers of a cousin of my grandfather who died in the 1970s. I have never seen Nathan or the initial N used by Thomas himself. On the other hand, Nathan was the middle name of one of my (and Scott's) great uncles, and it is used by other Cofields in Georgia, so it could be correct.
