I have some information on them. I'm a descendant from John B. Coffield from his first wife, Mahala Lavina Hall. Francis and John were married in Washington County, GA December 12, 1867. My information shows that Francis had a son, John B. Smith born 1859. So, it would appear that Smith was a married name. John B.'s father was John C. Coffield born 1787 in NC, and died 1873 in Washington County, GA. His mother was Nancy born 1795 in GA, and died 1873 in Washington County, GA. I haven't ordered to documents to verify yet. I emailed you an Adobe document with a family member's research. I hope it helps.
