David, Gresham is my GGGGGrandfather.Thomas Nathan, next,,then Lewis E,then William J.then William Lewis was my grandfather.my dad was Samuel J. of Oxford,Al i'm Sam J Cofield Jr.
what i have on Gresham Coffield (i'm not sure if it right or not, but) is that he fought in the Rev.War in the N.C. Militia. He was listed in the 1787 N.C. census,he signed a petition to icorporate the Protestant Episcopal Church in Suffolk Parrish#2. In the N.C. census of 1790 Gresham Coffield lived in the Halifax district of Edgecombe County. and in the census of 1830 a Gresham Coffield was living inTroup County,Ga.i'd always thought that Gresham was the son of Benjamin Coffield of Edgecombe County,N.C. which was the son of a Gresham Coffield which was on Aug.14,1638 was in Isle of Wight County,Va. and in 1704 was in Nansemond County Va....Thanks,Sam
