I might be able to help you with finding your Coffin connection. I have a copy of The Coffin Family, a 575 page book, plus a supplement, written by a Louis Coffin and copyrighted in 1962. I bought it from the Nantucket Historical Society, of which I was a member at the time. I just e-mailed them yesterday and they came back to tell me that they no longer carry the book and that it’s out of print. They suggest looking at online used book stores for it, but I know its’ value has skyrocketed. I’ll be happy to research in that book (or any other I have) to see if I can connect you to the Coffin family. I just looked at the names you mentioned in your last e-mail, (Kendig, Kendigh, Kendrick, Kindig, Dye, Petty and Gove) and none are listed in the index. The closest I could come is a Thomas Coffin (b. 1/3/1789 d. 4/25/1864) married a Susan Pettys (b. 7/29/1797, d. 12/?/1881) daughter of Ephraim. If this doesn’t help, do you have any clue as to how you might be connected? I live in Framingham, MA, just west of Boston. Virtually all of my ancestors are from the New England area, with the largest exception being a branch that went to Nova Scotia in the 1700s and one connection to Long Island, NY through a British Loyalist who wanted to stay loyal to the king during the revolution, so he, too, relocated to Nova Scotia. I can count among my forebears Pilgrims, the founders of both of our big islands, (Martha’s Vineyard [Mayhews] and Nantucket [Coffins and Starbucks]) and some early settlers of Maine and New Hampshire. I’m a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and just rejoined the Maine Historical Society. I have been a member of both the Nantucket and Nova Scotia Historic Societies, but let them lapse. I don’t tell you all of this to brag or impress, but to give you an idea of the resources I can use to possibly help you in your research. What I find impressive is having over 20,000 people in your file! I thought I had a lot at 1,345. I’ve never been to the Dallas area (or anywhere else in Texas), but I have a friend (actually an old girlfriend) who lives in Lillian, TX, just south of Dallas. We e-mail regularly back and forth, so I feel as if I know the area just a little. Didn’t Dallas used to have a football team? Let me know if I can help in any way. Bob PS. If you want, send me your direct e-mail address, so we can stop using the forum. Notify Administrator about this message?
