Dicy Coffield appears in the 1820 Bertie Census. The two children with Dicy were born while she was unmarried. Dicey COFFIELD in February 1817 names Nathan Mires, Edward Bird, and Reddick White as Bondsmen for the first child to assure support of the child. It is not clear if one or all were the suspected father or just an interested party. Two years later Dicy Coffied names Tristram CAPEHART , Elisha TOMES, and Robt. C. WATSON under the same circumstance. Dicy would have been born a COFFIELD, probably about 1800. She may be the Dicy Castellow listed in the Census of 1850 , who would have been born about 1803, and lives next to Alfred Coffield.
Please tell me where the info re. Dicy and Staten Brown came from.
thanks, bill
