I am looking for ancestors of my g-g-g-g-grandfather, James Freeman Coffield b. 1825 (I believe in Darke County, OH) -- he served in the Civil War and married Barbara Anna Hanselmann of Germany in 1850 in Darke County. I descend through his son John T. Coffield (b. abt 1851 in Darke County) and his wife Rachel A. Pitsenbarger.
I have seen some sources on-line that suggest that James Freeman Coffield was the son of John C. Coffield with his wife Elizabeth Slayback, and that John C. Coffield was a son of Arthur Coffield of Ireland -- I am hoping to confirm this and also to learn more about my Coffield ancestors.
If anyone has information about the family of James Freeman Coffield (I am particularly interested in his military service, if anyone knows anything further on that) and his ancestors, I would be most grateful if you could get in touch with me. Many thanks in advance!
