This is from Marraige, Death and Legal Notices from Early Alabama Newspapers 1818-1897 by Pauline Jones Gandrud 1981. November 15, 1836 - "In camp near Tallahassee, Florida 22 Oct. 1836. Major Wm. M. King; Sir: We are requested as a committee appointed by the Battalion of Jackson County (Ala)Volunteers to respond to your note of yesterday. It is the unanimous desire of the officers and privates of this Battalion that you do not resign your seat in the State Legislature. David Cawlfield, John Smith, M. Price, Joshua Scurlock, A. Coffey, H. Pogue, James P. Poston, Wm. A. McCrary,, Thomas Holland, John Bridges." I believe A. Coffey might be Abner Coffey of Benton Co. Any other ideas? Sandy Otos
