Well, let's see if this helps:

Elizabeth (Betsey) was a Coffey, dau. of Nathan. She was born 1791. Siblings of Logan were Langston, b 11 Aug 1807, d 15 Aug 1864; William Woodson; Wyatt; Cleveland; Lucy; and Milton.

I'm not certain which Nathan was her father. There was a Nathan b 1730 in VA who married Martha Sealey in 1753. Martha was b 1737 and died after 1789 in NC. Nathan was a grandson of General John Coffee. His father might have been Nathan Joel or Joel Nathan (speculation only). Nathan and Martha had children: Mary; Absalon; Joel; Elizabeth; Grace; William; Nancy; and Catherine. Check the TX Society of DAR Roster of Patriots.

There was another Nathan b 1760 in Anson, Wilkes Co., NC and died in 1823 in Jackson Co., AL. He was married to Mary Sauders in 1785; Mary was b 1770 and died in 1838 in Jackson Co. Childred were Mary; Absalom, Joel, Elizabeth; Grace, William, Nancy and Catherine.

So, you see, there is a serious conflict in the information. If your wife's line is in the Joel Coffey family, you're in for a chore ! There is much mis-information in DAR records on Joel and membership in that organization on his ancestry has been closed.

Visit Coffey Cousins' Clearinghouse and post a query. You might find someone working on that line (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6233/coffeycousins.html)

Regards - Jack
