In Reply to: Looking for Margaret Ann "Nancy" Caudy that married Henry Larrick son of Casper by Suzanne McClintock of 2556

According to descendants of this family, who have posted repeatedly in numerous public locations; the wife of Harry Larrick, aka Margaret Ann Caudy, all showed that her father was David CAUDY (1733-1783), who was born AND died Capon Valley, Hampshire, Virginia. HIS father, Margaret Ann's grandfather, was named James CAUDY, who came from Holland; born 1710 and died March 9, 1784 at Capon Valley, Hampshire, Virginia.

The name "Cody" with that spelling may have simply 'evolved' from 'Caudy', or been written at some point in error by a courthouse, cemetery, or census enumerator who logically wrote and reported the name as it "fell upon the ear" when verbally pronounced - not uncommon for that to happen! (IF there were possibly later descendants who married into the CODY families, then naturally that could change the dynamics of the heritage questions.) But from what I understand the query/posting to inquire here on this board, is that the question of connection to "Buffalo Bill" may have come (again, not uncommon) from merely the 'oral tradition' and then added to being based upon the individual surname of Margaret Ann CAUDY who married Harry Larrick.

Nevertheless, this family's surname spelling is indeed correctly revealed as CAUDY repeatedly, and apparently shown in many records over several centuries with that exact spelling.

They are not related to the same CODY family that is also related to "Buffalo Bill" - both having unrelated origin and unrelated ancestors, and who settled in very different geographic locations. Sorry I cannot help you further, but the Mormon archives do usually have a considerable amount of those early original records that should help. Also, since you likely have more correct names and locations, a local history library or genealogical group could assist you. But alas, 'Cody-related'(referring to your question)they are not (by origin), with certainty - and alas, also particularly definitely not connected to "Buffalo Bill".

Too, I don't know the veracity of "Holland" that repeatedly turned up as their homeland, very probable...... However, those dates (with a post-1710 arrival to the USA) suggest at least a reasonable timeframe for you to build upon, although unsourced by myself as I have no connection. Just passing along the info, although I definitely have nothing else to offer. Again, to emphasize that data and to encourage you, the initial immigration of the family coming into this country at some point during the lifetime of the first immigrant here named James Caudy (1710-1784) also clearly, (or at least, hopefully)gives you something more to base your research with as a foundation for further investigation.

Don't give up! Keep on asking around! Perhaps there are boards for the specific locations or some of the other surnames related? Best of luck to you in your searches!
