Sherry thank you for your interesting post. I am sorry I did not reply earlier (I’ve been away). As your message is packed with details, I will response over several posts. I am most keen to pursue your new information. As others will see your post too, I will also pause to comment where this could assist clarity.
Where what you have differs from what I have seen or my understanding, in a few instances I could not access references. I am hoping you will help with a look up as you seem to have such material.
I’ll start with your comment: ‘Agnes (Agnetis) Cod, widow of Nicholas (que fuite uxor Nicholai or Nicholai le velour de Clohir (Agnes filed a claim for her deceased husband’s estate in Clohir or Clogher in Cork (Hospital of St. John the Baptist without the New Gate, Dublin, Eric St. John Brooks, Irish Manuscripts Commission); [and] their two sons, Adam Cod and Robert Cod’.
I was not able to read your source, because I cannot access the text of the reference.All I can see is a part of the index to the Register of the Hospital of S. John the Baptist without the New Gate, Dublin, Eric St. John Brooks, 1936 edn, Irish Manuscripts Commission, p.420. The names are indexed under Vilur:
Vilur (Velour, Vylur, Vicheler):
Agnes Cod wife of Nicholas, grants from [page numbers] 537, 538;
Nicholas, 436, 532; Nicholas son of, 537-540; grant from, 536.
Olive, grant from, 536.
Philip, 536.
Here, Cod is the surname of Agnes, and is not the surname of her husband Nicholas, or Nicholas son of Nicholas, who are indexed under the name de Vilur (Velour, Vylur, Vicheler).And this index does not name sons Adam Cod and Robert Cod.
I am hoping that you can provide more information. Sherry what did find that convinced you that Agnes Cod, wife of Nicholas de Vilur, father of Nicholas Velur, is the same woman called Agnes Cod who filed a claim for her deceased husband’s estate in Clohir or Clogher in Cork and had two sons, Adam Cod and Robert Cod?
Important material I wish to see is dating evidence and details of records in which these names appear, ideally with witnesses or other context-related facts, as this would help me with interpretation.
