May Cockrum Smith - 1900-1917 - Baxter Co., Arkansas

Hi

Just recently I was made aware of a first marriage to one of my Smiths from the Baxter Co., Arkansas area. My grandfather had a brother; William Smith that was married to a Mae Cockrum (b1900).

I am told that while serving during WWI, that William Smith's new bride; Mae Cockrum Smith and her mother; Ellen Cockrum (b1872) were murdered at Lone Rock, Baxter Co., Arkansas in 1917.

Mae was with child at the time of her death.

Is there anyone that might could shed any light on this particular branch of Cockrums?
