This is what I have and know as it is recorded in the Jefferson Co. IL marriage records. I took the information directly off the original records.
Melissa Cochran married William Dunbar 29 Jan 1850 Jefferson Co. IL.
As to her parents, I have the same information recorded in my records as you do concerning Melissa. I have placed her there only as being suspected of being their daughter. I have no other information or proof on her relationship with John or Maryann.
As far as John Cockrum goes it's very possible he's the brother of one Thomas Cockrum of Jefferson Co. IL. Thomas being born abt 1801-1805 KY d. by 1870 Jefferson CO. IL. He was supposed to have been the son of John and Susannah Cockrum of Todd Co. KY.
This has not been proved out by me though. They also say Thomas was the grandson of Matthew Cockrum of Edgefield, SC.
This Thomas Cockrum married early on in KY to an unknown lady. They migrated to Jefferson Co. IL early on and had more children. I believe Thomas' wife died after the 1840 census, because by the 1850 census he is listed as having just married within the year. He married 2nd Mary Ann Hudson 1st Aug 1850 Jefferson, IL
Most place this marriage as being with Thomas Cockrum Jr. But the 1850 census is very clear about Thomas Cockrum Sr. being remarried within the year of 1850 and the marriage records agree.
If you have anything more that you can share prehaps we can get this family worked out. I have been trying to get these Cockrum/Cochran families of Jefferson and Wayne Co IL put together and the more information I have the better I can do my job. <g>
