Thanks so much for the information you provided!!! Since my original post, I've also discovered FamilySearch records for both the COCKRELL and BURTON families, and it looks like you were correct about Annie Elizabeth COCKRELL's parents and grandparents. I also very much appreciate you sharing the census records, as I do not otherwise have access to them, and I find they almost always provide other clues.
You mentioned a James BURTON that was a neighbor to the COCKRELLs born about 1780-1790? That bit of information is very interesting, since FamilySearch has Annie Elizabeth COCKRELL's husband as James BURTON, son of Samuel Love BURTON, b. 1812, Caswell, North Carolina. Maybe the James BURTON you found was related somehow, I'll have to go back and check. Anyway, it gives me something else to go on, so I am grateful for your help. I've found all these records, but still can't find any relatives!!! Thanks again.
