hey henrietta. i have been looking for you in the posts as we communicated long ago and then i kind of 'referred' you to my m-i-l, marilee allen (whose mother lucy maude was a cockrell; m. charles emory...she knew this stuff and i sure didn't.) i believe you two communicated about this same family you are referring to in this post in fact, and both of you seemed to recall harry bryan's interest in planes or trains, was it (just not 'automobiles' ;)) i regret to say mary passed almost two years ago, and i have inherited her 'notes' on all this, which are a bit jumbled but useful none the same. (she also talked about a 'connie bailey' who researched this same line of cockrells, and i haven't been able to find connie; so hope i haven't confused info from the 2 of you.) two weeks ago mary's brother, 'steve' charles emory passed (the last of her generation of emorys; no male sons born) and at the funeral cousins talked of reunions, family trees, and lots more info we'd like to assemble and share. so, i'd like to try and make some sense out of the cockrell family tree, which unfortunately is one of my most poorly developed 'lines' i have. if there's anything you have assembled about the pike co. families and are willing to share, i'd love to see it and would be ever so grateful indeed. it appears to me that her cockrell tree ends with john milton and lydia peters (i have such a great photo of them. :)) can you refer me somewhere to get beyond this generation and perhaps another generation or two back...i wonder if that info is out there, and since i've come across the surname again and again in other locales on deeds, the census, whatever, i'm guessing there just might be. another loose end i wonder if you'd happen to know...mary referred to the 'alabama cockrells' several times over the years. as much of my own line has lived there since the civil war, i'd truly love to know the connection between pike co oh and this southern branch. i plan to go back through mar's notes real soon so i can atleast understand who some of these folks were she always talked about...my notes are fragmented but you were my flash of hope in the sea of cockerels. write back when you can; would love to hear from you. deb allen Notify Administrator about this message?
