Hannah Cockrell/Cockrill-Spartanburg, SC 1800s
Posted by: John Harrison Date: February 22, 2002 at 10:26:30
  of 1045

In the estate papers of HANNAH COCKRILL (Spartanburg Co., SC estate file #615) in 1821, Hannah directs Robert Lankford to "pay her debts from her property and that the rest should be kept to support and maintain her four youngest children until they came of age and then to be divided between them." Hannah's estate sale was held on March 3, 1821 and Frances Cockril was the buyer of most of the items. Other buyers included Darby Turner, Samuel Turner, Lewis Cockrill, and Lucinda Cockril. It is likely that Frances, Lewis, and Lucinda were children of Hannah who were then of age. FRANCES COCKRELL married 1) FELIX TURNER 1822 in Spartanburg Co., SC. & 2) Robert BAILEY. She died near Greer, SC 1880. It appears that this is a branch of the William Cockrill family that did not go from Spartanburg, SC to Kentucky in the early 1800s. Thanks for any information or clues.
