My husband has ancestors of this last name from Keziah who died in 1783 in Fairfax County VA; her parents were Owen and Keziah (Cockerill) Williams. Keziah Cockerill's parents were John and ?(Longworth) Cockerill; John Cockerill was bapt 24 Nov 1695 in Westmoreland Co VA son of John and Elizabeth (Presley) Saunders-Cockerill and died 1753-1755 in Fairfax VA. This John Cockerill was born in Westmoreland VA 22 Nov 1669 son of John Cockerill and Hannah Coles. This John Cockerill was first mentioned in Northumberland VA on 1 May 1650 when he apprentices himself to Lt. Edward Cole and dies ca 1704. This is the earliest of my husband's ancestors of this surname and I got this information from THE CLELAND-JENKINS BOOK by Amy Gilreath.
