Archibald Cockrell was in the 1850 Itawamba Co., MS census. In his HH is a 7 year old boy named William Shumpard. I am looking for the parents of William Irving Shumpert that was born in 1840 in SC or MS. I think there must be some connection of him with the Cockrell family.

From the Itawamba History book, I have an article of Elum Cockrell family, but do not know the connection of these two families. Elum came to Itawamba Co. in 1873 from Randolph Co., AL. His grandfather was Thomas Cockrell of Johnston Co., NC, and Elum's father was Simon Cockrell. The story of Elum Cockrell was submitted by Bob Franks.
