Hi Bruce,
This has got to be my family. You have Betsy Stuart as wife of William Cockran/Cockerham. My Stewarts/Stuarts were living in the Buncombe Co area since 1810. before this they were in Greenville, Sc -1797-1810, prior to this they were in Surry County, Nc 1774-1840's. My GGGGGgrandfather was John Stewart born 1728 died in Surry County Nc 1806. Moses Cockerham was our next door neighbor since the 1780's, Moses also signed as witness to many of our land deeds. Moses came to Surry from Lunenburg Co Va. Nathaniel and brother Edward Stewart/Stuart left Surry Co Nc and moved to Greenville Co Sc by 1797, they are listed in the 1800 census list and Edward Stewart is also in the 1810 census for Greenville, you should take a look at them and see all the Cochran/Cockerham etc.. names on these census. Edward Stewart had a daughter named Nancy who married William Prather or Praytor, their son E. B. Praytor married Elizabeth Cockerham. I would like to discuss this with you. My eamil is Thanks, Teresa Stuart de Rios
