My ancestor, Richard Dean, b. 1698 England, was transported to Henrico Co., VA in 1713 by John Bolling, s/o Robert Bolling and Jane Rolfe. He was apprenticed to John for 7 years, and had land adjacent to him, as well, near Licking Hole Creek, from 1724 to about 1744 or later. when he sold his land to John Pleasants. Richard died in 1748, and was posthumously awarded a patent (#1047 and 1047+) in The French Lands. This was next to some land that John Martin, AKA Jean Martain, owned, and close to William Martin's land as well. It is assumed that he acquired this patent through marriage, as he was not French. His wife, Sarah, died in 1751-52, and my ancestor, William Dean, his youngest son, was orphaned and bound to churchwardens of the court, in early 1753. I have long suspected that Richard's widow, Sarah, may have been a Cocke/Cox, as I see George, Bartholomew, William Cox, and others on documents with Richard and also with some Martins. I know that some Cockes/Cox's are married with some of the Martins, and others, but I'm not sure of which ones. I also see a Sarah Cox, b. circa 1696, who was the d/o Sarah Perrin, and I think, a William Cox. She is not listed as married, in most databases I have seen. Also, some of the sons of Richard Dean/Deen/Deane married with the George and Abraham Abney families, and also with the Mayes', Davis', and Watson's; moving first to Halifax Co., VA, and then to Laurens and Edgefield counties, SC. If anyone has any information, or any leads on the identity of Sarah Dean, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Otis Fuller Notify Administrator about this message?
