I'm also trying to locate some information on Charles Lewis Cocke. However, I'm trying to find information on a slave of his, Ann Scott, who was a pastry cook at Hollins while Charles was principal of the institute. I know he was born in 1820 and died in 1901, and there is, supposedly, an article that goes in more detail about him in the William & Mary Quarterly, ISSN:0043-5597 Vol. 9-4 October 1929. I'm going to the library this weekend to look at it. If you find any additional information on Charles or his slaves, please let me know. Thank you.
