COCKE vs. COOKE
Posted by: james e cooke, jr Date: January 20, 1999 at 19:26:51

Anyone come across info to suggest these were one line, especially in VA? In Amelia, even today, "Cocke" is pronounced "Cook".
My line has many given names common to the Cocke family: Stephen, John, William, Agnes, & Abraham. Ironically, Anderson COCKE, son of Thomas Cocke & Keziah Anderson(dau of Charles Anderson & Elizabeth Chambers) ran a grist mill in Cumberland County, VA, on Green Creek, with Stephen COOKE of my line.
Hope I haven't "ruffled any feathers".
Any suggestions appreciated.
