William Cocke aged 26 came on the Godspeed to America in 1610, making the year of his birth about 1584. His fare was paid by Matthew Edlow, Sr. William signed an agreement to work out the cost of his fare. Matthew Edlow, Sr., being deceased, the patent for the 24 settlers his father had transported, was given to Matthew Edlow, Jr. (50 acres per person). On the list of tramsportees, William Cocke's name is followed by the name Elizabeth, jux (jux is probably ux, wife). William Cocke was granted 250 acres of land in 1637. He was deceased by 1656 when a Henrico Co., VA deed on 14 Dec 1656, mentions the orphans of William Cocke. In 1642, William Cocke bought 250 acres in partnership with Isaac Hutchins, at the mouth of Falling Creek, along the James River. Two known sons of William and Elizabeth Cocke were Thomas and John b.ca 1640 d.between 1692 and 1696. CHILDREN OF JOHN and wife, Mary were: John, Bartholemew, Richard b.ca 1678 m. Mary Trent, Henry, George, and William. CHILDREN OF RICHARD and wife, Mary Trent were: John, Henry, Mary m. Ford, Elizabeth m. Strangeman Hutchins, Richard, Obedience m. Purkins, Edith m. Whitlow, Martha. I am looking for informatiion which will tie William to Thomas Cocke b. 1543. My thoughts have been that William b.ca 1584 might have been the uncle of Richard b. 5 Sep 1602. Any assistance would be appreciated.
