Notes for James Edward Cocke; From notes that Basil Cox gave me: Entered service on May 29, 1861, re-enlisted a year later and is last shown withh the company in December, 1864. Served to the end of the war.
From Scott. J.L. 45th Virginia Infantry, ISBN-0-930919-80-7 Col. I. Age 21 in 1860 CCC. Enlisted 5/29/61 at Wytheville. Sick when the regiment moved from Wytheville, 7/12/1861. Sick again 9/61. Present on final roll. He died in Carroll County 9/22/1909.

Was captured June 5,1864, at Piedmont and imprisoned at Camp Morton. Records inthe archives indicated that he died February 9, 1865, at Camp Morton of diarrhea. Inasmuch as he married a year later in Carroll Conty, it would seem that the archives have confused his records with those of someone else.
