NO PROOF BUT ADDED INFERENCE
To expand upon response of Doyleen Turner to you in
Posting No. 7253.
MARY SMITH WAS WIFE OF GEORGE BATES d1677
Posting 7253 provides the inference that Mary Smith was wife of George Bates d1677, when James Smith made bequeaths in his will to the two sons of Mary.
412 ACRES FROM JAMES SMITH TO GEORGE BATES

Merchant," namely 3rd generation John Bates d1719

Further inference that Mary Smith was wife of George Bates was the transfer of 412 acres in 1670 from
John Smith to his son James Smith, which in turn, was transfered to George Bates prior to 1675
ELIZ. WINSTON AS WIFE OF IMMIGRANT JOHN BATES QUESTIONED
This theory was debunked in Posting No. 7283 by a
Winston researcher who asked and answered the question
"Was Elizabeth W/O John Bates d1666 York Co., VA a Winston?"
ELIZ. DANIELS AS WIFE OF 3rd GENERATION JOHN BATES d1719
This tradition was questioned by article published in
"Bates Booster" Newsletter No. 188, dated May 2005,
The researcher argued with reason that Elizabeth Daniels was wife of 2nd generation John Bates, the brother of George Bates d1677.
The first and only wife of 3rd generation John Bates d1719 was Hannah Tindall. One George Tindall, perhaps a brother of Hannah, in a will dated 4 November 1702 mentions wife Elizabeth, but no children. He gives to loving Godson John Bates, son of John Bates and Hannah his wife my dwelling Plantation and all my tract of land.
