Taliaferro an Itallion family in Bergamo Italy in the 12th century . Bartholomew Taliaferro oth the Republic of Venice settled in London in 1500's and died their in 1604.
His grandson , Robert Taliaferro I, was born in 1626 and moved to Virginia by 1647. He died at age 45, in 1671, leaving over 4,000 acres of prime land along both sides of the Rappahannock River to his five sons, Francis, John, Robert, Richard, and Charles. Richard had only one son and three daughters. They became one of the most powerful Tidwater families, from the Tidewater to the mountains of Colonial Virginia. They were noted for litigation, marriage within the family, and using the same names in every generation. Francis John and Robert II. have descendants living in many states. Three of Robert Taliaferro's five sons left male descendants.
