V.W. Bro. Wm. Cockburn was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1893. He emigrated to Canada in 1912, then enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1914. Bill served in England and in France, where he was wounded. After recuperating in England, he returned to Canada for discharge. In 1924, Bro. Cockburn was initiated into Tyrian Lodge No. 127, at Edam. In 1928, he became a Charter Member of Turtleford Lodge No. 190, later being made a life member. Bro. Cockburn served as W. Master of Turtleford Lodge in 1934 and remained a member of that Lodge for 38 years, until becoming a member of Battle Lodge No. 19, in 1966. Bro. Cockburn held the office of Secretary-Treasurer of Battle Lodge from 1967 until 1976. In 1967, he was given an honourary membership in Battle Lodge, and in 1968 was appointed Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan. In 1988, Bro. Cockburn's dedication to Freemasonry was recognized with an unique honour. V.W. Bro. Wm. Cockburn, then 94, was piped into Lodge by W. Bro. Hugh Fraser of Saskatoon, where he was presented the Gold Honour Award for distinguished service to his community and his Lodge. The award was issued by the York Rite Sovereign College with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan, which was represented by W. Bro. Jack Brooks of Wynyard, Saskatchewan, Governor of Prairie Lily York Rite College No. 71 (Saskatoon). His wife was Jane (?). One of his sons was Wm. Edwin George Cockburn (changed it to Coburn) who married Margaret Thompson (b. 1918) I only know about my G. Grandfather, I would like to find info on any more of his kids and info on my Grandfather, Wm Edwin George Cockburn whom I've never met. He is my dad's father. My dad's name is Patrick Coburn b.1951 or 52. His brothers were, Billy, Robert and James. Is it possible for you to get more info on my dad's father? I know nothing about him.
