It's been eons since I looked at these message boards, so your message I am responding to is several years old.I hope you're still active on this board and interested in the Cockburns.
In my records I have a George Cockburn Sr. b. about 1720 in N.C., married to Elizabeth b. about 1724.Children included Francis, Christine, Mary, George, Elizabeth, Ann and John.
His son, George Jr. was b. about 1750, married to Frances.Children included Elizabeth, George, Mary, Theophilus, Francis, Winifred, and Marie.
His son, Theophilus W., was b. 1874 in N.C., married to Winifred Hogan. The only child I have record of is George Lemuel Cockburn.
George Lemuel, b. 1811/1812 in N.C., married Frances Pope.Their children included Indiana, William H, Robert Emmett, George L, Arthur, Actavia, Edward L, and Simpson.
Indiana, my direct-line ancestor, appears in the census as Indiana Coburn, the first record I have of the name change.
I have documentation for much of the above information.
The Cockburn family apparently moved from North Carolina to north-western Alabama in the early 1800s, along with many other prominent families.
Does the above information fit with anything you have?I'll be glad to exchange additional information.
