When I was in London, I could not find any evidence of a Cockburn Hotel. However, when my aunt's brother-in-law was in London during the war, he said that he saw a Cockburn Hotel. I have a picture of the one in Edinburgh. If I can find a scanner, I will send you a copy. It is located close to the train station, the library, and the castle. I believe one street running beside it is Cockburn St. The hotel is in the shape of a v with streets running on either side. Grandad never mentioned the nicknames of George's parents. I was just a child at the time and never thought to ask. Grandad did have a wallet that belonged to George Cockburn. When he showed it to me, he always showed the indentation where a gold coin had been. My brother was promised the wallet, but after Grandad's death a cousin ended up with it. Cis Cockburn's house is still standing in Cisco, but barely. My grandfather's house was fairly close it. When my grandfather died, he left his land to a cousin, who then sold it. So no Cockburns own any land in Cisco now that I know. I know that in England Cockburn is pronounced Coburn, but my grandfather was very adamant that it was Cock-burn. I would say that the Coburn in England ends up being Cockburn in Scotland with their brogue. I don't know of any records except things told us by word of mouth. Greg and Emily Cockburn and I worked on the accounts of the Cockburn family, which you will find in the History of Murray County GA. Anything that you have on Clark Terrell would be appreciated. I saw his grave when my husband and I went to Arkansas to check on family info. We stopped at a Cockburn lady's house, and she told us that Rooster Cockburn lived close to her, and he had just celebrated his l00th birthday. Because he lived on a dirt road, we did not venture over to see him, but I would have loved it. I do not know if he is still alive. Mother said that her grandfather, Montevale "Mont" always went to Arkansas when he got in trouble with the revenuers. His wife, Minnie Ella Decker, supposedly was raised on the Indian reservation around Ft. Smith, Arkansas or OK, and her grandfather was an Indian chief. She was only 1/4 Cherokee Indian. My first cousin lives in Franklin County, GA, and she has searched extensively for George Cockburn's grave, but she cannot find it. Does anyon know where he is buried?
