Hi Andy-where do you live?Any Latter Day Saints Church usually has the 1881 census.Alexander-46b Gartly,Aberdeen,Ann-44,Margaret-17,Alexander-12-Garvald,Haddington,Hellen-9,James-7,George-5-all born Haddington.----Mary Cockburn-27-b.South Leith,James-7 and Janet all b. South Leith.-----Janet Cockburn-30 b.Dalkeith and her son James-5 b.Dalkeith.The census,I believe was taken in March,so depending when he was born do not count anything out, also they were never sure what age they were. The last 2 were widows so it would seem unlikely that they would have Alexander.I would be looking at Alexander as prime.Haddington is just outside of Leith.-Cheers-Colin
