Laura, I don't know if there would be a connection, but my gg-grandmother was Eliza Cochran. She had a brother by the name of John that settled somewhere in Washington State. Eliza was born in 1821 and we think in Westfield, NY, but may have moved there after her birth. She married Robert Cochrane who died while the family was in Wisconsin in 1851. Eliza died in Gary, South Dakota in 1888 and is buried in the Gary cemetery. Wondering if there would be a connection to your John Cochrane
