Further info for you to peruse. I found an IGI Record for a George Cochrane born 10 September 1861 at Saint Boswells,Roxburgh, Scotland. His father was James Cochrane, his mother was Jane "Samuel". The dates on IGI records are sometimes not accurate, but perhaps your great grandfather used his mother's maiden surname "Samuel". Are you sure of his correct date of birth and is his name George Samuel Cochrane, or Samuel George Cochrane. Might be a different family, but worth looking into.
