I hope this doesn't confuse the issue, but I have been researching the following work, "Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files" and found it to be an amazing source of info on many families. There were quite a few PA and VA COCHRANS/COUGHRANS listed in it, but I only copied the data on one down as he appears to be the brother of my own ancestor. I will include it here; you will quickly see the similarities between your man and this one. This is a paraphrase of the abstract--
Joseph COUGHREN or COUGHRON or COCHRAN, b. 1/16/1761 in Bedford Co., VA. Lived in Hampshire Co., VA at enlistment [note: that is now in WV]. After war lived in VA, PA, Scioto Co., OH and IL. Wife Prudence MATHEWS; married on 11/14/1789 in Washington Co., PA. Widow applied 2/25/1850 for pension in Clark Co., IL aged 74. Children:
John M. b. 1795
William b. 1797
Rachel b. 1799
Benjamin b. 1801
Joseph b. 1804
Sarah b. 1806
Isaac b. 1809
James b. 1811
Matilda b. 1815
Johnathan b. 1817
Jesse b. 1819
John M. b. 1795
William b. 1797
Rachel b. 1799
Benjamin b. 1801
Joseph b. 1804
Sarah b. 1806
Isaac b. 1809
James b. 1811
Matilda b. 1815
Johnathan b. 1817
Jesse b. 1819This may not be your John Cochran, but I thought I'd pass this info along anyway. If you can get to a good library(I used the William and Mary College library)I'd highly recommend that you study this collection of abstracts. It is a very large set of 3 books, but a goldmine of unbelievable data if your ancestor was a soldier in the Revolution. Still can't believe it myself.
