Janet, b. 1714, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland, m. William Murray
I am seeking contact and an exchange of information with any descendants/researchers who are interested in either the Janet Cochran who married William Murray in 1736 in Avondale Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland AND/OR the Janet Cochran who was baptized in March 1714 in neighboring Stonehouse Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland, daughter of John and Jean (Riddle) Cochran.Alternatively, I am seeking contact with any Cochran and/or Riddle researchers interested in 18th century Lanarkshire, Scotland. Please contact me directly at [email protected]
Set forth below is what is known and what I am GUESSING (it's just a THEORY, needing more reseach/evidence to prove or disprove). Do NOT take this as established fact.
Facts.
1. The LDS website includes the marriage of a William Murray and Janet Cochran on August 15, 1736 in Avondale Parish.
2. The LDS site also has a record of the baptism of a Janet Cochran on March 18, 1714 in Stonehouse Parish, the daughter of John and Jean (Riddle) Cochran.
Best Guesses.
1. Janet Cochran, to be married in 1736, was probably born between 1710 and 1718 (to be no younger than 18 and no older than 26).
2. A map of Lanarkshire parishes can be found at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/LKS/parishmap.htmlhttp://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/LKS/parishmap.html.Stonehouse and Avondale are neighboring parishes.
IF (big IF), any of the guesswork above is close to accurate, then this particular Cochran family might have looked like this.
John Cochran, born Bet. 1680 - 1690 in Lanarkshire, Scotland; died Aft. 1717 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. He married Jean Riddle 1710 in Stonehouse Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Jean Riddle, born Bet. 1682 - 1692 in Lanarkshire, Scotland; died Aft. 1717 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Children of John Cochran and Jean Riddle are:
i.Janet Cochran, born March 18, 1713/14 in Stonehouse Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died Aft. 1748 in Scotland; married William Murray August 15, 1736 in Avondale Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
ii.Eupham Cochran, born November 07, 1717 in Stonehouse Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
If anyone can share more information that would either prove or disprove any of the above theories, please contact me directly at [email protected]
