Teresa,
When we went to Lincoln County the other day I found William Cochran's power of attorney that he had given to his brother Robert to represent him in their lawsuit against Henry Slinkard/Slinker. It says that he was from Lincoln County and it is dated 12-8-1800. He is not listed in the 1800 census so I don't know who he was living with or if he traveled there to give the POA. I have not ruled out the possibility that William in Buncombe is the same person but I would like to find some concrete evidence. The names in his family does not fit with our line. They were pretty strict about same names staying in the family. Do you know if William was ever in Greenville, SC? Two of the other brothers were there in the early 1800's and
I had seen mention of your William having a connection with Greenville, SC. That was what made me speculate that he might be the one. Some of their family later ended up in Rutherford, Macon, and Swain Counties. Their brother Robert lived in Rutherford County until his death.
